I started bike racing in 2006. The story goes that I was riding in a 100 k event in Cincinnati for the DPF and managed to nail Wayne Stetina for the win. He contacted Jonathon Vaughters by email, claiming he’d basically be an idiot not to sign me. So he let me join the 5280 (magazine) sponsored Junior Team. I was racing in the 15/16 category. In my second year of racing, I won the Junior World Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico. And in my third year, I made the team to Beijing….& won the Junior Worlds Individual Pursuit and was 3rd in the ITT. I flew 100,000 miles in 2008. 2009 was much different than ‘08 with early emphasis on building a road base - a little track racing - and a lot of short stage races and good training camps to get me prepped for some of the longer races by the end of the year.
